HS BBBall: Pleasant Plains Drops Maroa-Forsyth

A tough week for the Maroa-Forsyth boy’s basketball program got even tougher after a 55-34 defeat at the hands of Pleasant Plains 55-34 from Pleasant Plains High School Friday in Sangamo Conference high school boy’s basketball action.

The Trojans this week learned leading scorer, Coby Lane has a season-ending torn ACL he suffered in early January. While the junior will have season-ending surgery averaging 22 points per game and seven rebounds per game, he gets a chance at a redemption tour next season.

However, it comes in a year where Maroa-Forsyth has been bitten by the injury bug harder than most teams. They lost second-leading scorer Caebrin Lee to a broken wrist within a few weeks of Lee’s injury and already were managing through injuries to its football stars who were banged up in the school’s run to the Class 1A state championship.

Senior Mitch Williams, the healthiest of the Trojans’ anticipated regulars, continued his excellent play in returning from injury with ten points to lead Maroa-Forsyth Friday night.

Despite all the injuries, the Trojans have played to an 8-8 record but start the Sangamo Conference slate 0-1. They host Olympia Tuesday night in Sangamo Conference action.
