HS BBBall: Rantoul Rallies Past Monticello

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Rantoul rallied from an 11-point first-half deficit to beat Monticello 58-47 in Illini Prairie Conference high school boy’s basketball action Tuesday night in Rantoul.

DJ Davis put the Eagles on his back and scored nine of his 23 points in the second quarter to help Rantoul cut into the deficit going into the half. He scored 11 more in the third quarter helping Rantoul storm in front for good.

After a much-needed strong start, Monticello faded in the second half. The Sages shot just 7-of-30 in the second half.

Gatsby Grant led Monticello with 11 points - seven came in the first quarter. Tyler Blythe chipped in with ten points - seven in the second quarter.

Blythe played much better after struggling the last few games. His bounce-back performance earned him the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt Counties Player of the Game.

The Eagles go to 12-10 overall and 3-2 in the Illini Prairie Conference. Monticello drops to 11-11 overall and 2-3 in the Illini Prairie Conference.

Monticello is off until Saturday when they travel to Williamsville for the Illini Prairie/Sangamo Conference shootout against PORTA-AC Central at 1:30 pm. Hear the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
