In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Monticello beat Decatur St. Teresa 50-37 in non-conference high school boys' basketball action in Decatur Saturday evening.

The Sages used a 10-0 run in the first quarter to establish a lead they would never relinquish, although the Bulldogs played close most of the night. 

Gatsby Grant led Monticello with 12 points. Nolan Buehnerkemper added 11 points and eight rebounds. 

After a lackluster performance in a Friday win over Champaign St. Thomas More, Monticello played better Saturday. The Sages outrebounded St. T 33-23 and had 17 assists on its 19 field goals, shooting 45 percent. 

They held the Bulldogs to 28.6 percent shooting for the night. 

Monticello scored 24 of its 50 points in the paint. 

St. T drops to 3-25 overall.

Monticello improves to 15-12 overall. They return to action Tuesday night when they travel to Tolono Unity for a 7 pm Illini Prairie Conference tilt.
