HS BBBall: Monticello Falls to Bismarck-Henning

In a gem of a high school basketball heard on WEZC, Monticello was able to take the no. 2 team in Class 2A to double-overtime, but Bismarck-Henning outlasted the Sages 56-49 at the Sievers Center in Monticello.

 

The Sages controlled most of the game, leading for 25 minutes and 21 seconds to the Blue Devils five minutes and 11 seconds. 

 

Monticello led by as many as nine points in the second quarter. The game was also tied for eight minutes and 17 seconds thanks largely to stall offense run by both teams late. 

 

Only four players scored for Bismarck-Henning and all four reached double figures. Micah Stanford led all scorers with 17 points. Chaz Dubois added 16 points. Keison Peoples scored 13 points and Caden Keleminic added ten points.

 

The Sages were led by Gatsby Grant's 12 points. Matthias Rudolph added ten points and Ike Young finished with nine points.

 

Young's defensive effort on the Blue Devils two guards - Stanford and Peoples - earned him the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt Counties Player of the Game. 

 

Monticello shot 47.5 percent from the floor but finished 4-of-9 at the foul line. 

 

Bismarck-Henning finished 17-of-23 at the foul line and shot 39 percent from the floor. 

 

Each side made seven three-pointers.

 

Monticello was outrebounded 27-24. They finished with 22 points in the paint. 

 

The Blue Devils turned 16 turnovers into 13 points. 

 

Monticello had 12 assists on its 19 field goals made.

 

The Blue Devils finish the regular season at 30-1 overall. 

 

Monticello finishes the regular season at 16-13 overall. They will await the winner of Monday's Regional quarterfinal matchup between ALAH and Westville for a Wednesday 7:30 pm game in Westville.
