In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Monticello survived against Westville, 60-52 in Class 2A Regional semifinal action from Westville on Wednesday.
Four players scored in double figures as Monticello held a double-digit lead late in the first half.
The Tigers stayed close thanks to shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc.
Tigers' freshman Kiptyn Appl led all scorers with 19 points.
The Sages defense held the Tigers leading scorers to a combined seven points but the freshman played excellent Wednesday.
Preston Wright added 15 points and Matthew Darling scored 12 points.
Ike Young led Monticello with 15 points and nine boards. Tyler Blythe chipped in with 14 points. Nolan Buehnerkemper added 12 points and six rebounds while sophomore Matthias Rudolph finished with 11 points.
Buehnerkemper was the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt Counties player of the game.
Westville finishes 26-7 for the season.
The Sages improve to 17-13 overall. Monticello advances to take on Tolono Unity for the Regional Championship Friday night in Westville.
