A seventh-inning rally fell short for Heyworth in a 6-4 loss to Pleasant Plains Tuesday in non-conference, season-opening high school softball action Monday in Pleasant Plains.
Trailing 6-2, the Lady Hornets got two runs in the top of the seventh inning but could not get any closer.
Emily Rogers led Heyworth going 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Natalie Kopp was 2-for-4 with a triple and run scored. Grace Streenz was 2-for-4.
Kayden Skinner went the distance for the Lady Cardinals. She allowed four runs, one was earned, with eight strikeouts and permitted nine hits.
Pleasant Plains is 1-0. Heyworth falls to 0-1. They travel to Delavan this afternoon.
