HS Baseball: Normal West Downs Morton

Normal West opened the spring baseball season with a 4-3 win over Morton on Monday in Normal.

 

Chase Reinhart picked up the win for the Wildcats going 5 2/3 innings of hitless, shutout ball. He walked one and struck out nine. 

 

The Wildcats picked up a run in the fourth inning on a Torin DeLaere triple which scored Reagan Williams from first who was running for Sam McCully after his lead-off walk. Normal West tacked on three more runs in the sixth inning and held on in the top of the seventh as Morton rallied for three runs before the Wildcats closed out the game on a ground ball to shortstop Cooper Temples.

 

Gage Flairty picked up the save.

 

McCully was 1-for-2 with a double. Brady Hart, Drew Hart, and Gage Flairty had singles. Cooper Temples picked up an RBI on a bases-loaded walk.

 

The Wildcats are 1-0 on the season and will play host to Rochester tomorrow at 4:30 pm.
