Illinois (11-7) concluded a season-long five-game homestand with an 8-6 victory over Indiana State (9-12) at Illinois Field on Tuesday.
In the six-run inning, Coltin Quagliano doubled home Collin Jennings. Quagliano scored on an RBI single from Nick Groves. Grant Ross brought home a third run with a sacrifice fly and Jack Zebig capped the scoring with a two-out, three-run, blast, his team-leading sixth of the season, to make it 6-2.
Zebig went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs, and a walk. Vytas Valincius and Jennings each had two hits. Jacob Schroeder went deep Tuesday.
Jake Swartz picked up the victory out of the bullpen for the Illini. Swartz tossed 1.0 innings and allowed two runs on two hits to go along with two strikeouts. Evan Clark, Zach Bates, Luke Weber and Reed Gannon each worked scoreless frames in relief, with Gannon turning in a shutout ninth to record his first save of the season.
Illinois travels to Northwestern for a weekend Big Ten series.
