Heyden Romano hit his first career home run, Eric Arnold drove in four, and two Monticello pitchers combined to strike out 11 batters in a 16-2 romp over Murphysboro in high school baseball action from Murphysboro Saturday.
Arnold cleared the bases with a double in an eight-run second inning. The senior finished 2-for-4.
Romano's two-run home run capped a five-run sixth inning.
Koyie Williams struck out six in four scoreless innings for the Sages. Zeke Young allowed two runs on two hits, with a walk, and struck out five in two innings of relief.
In the second game of the day for Monticello, Waterloo walked off the Sages 6-5 from Murphysboro.
Eli Craft drove in two for Monticello in the loss. Carter Foran doubled.
The Sages are 2-1 overall to start the season. They visit Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond on Tuesday.
