Illinois State Blasts Belmont (Baseball)

Brayden Bakes blasted three home runs and Illinois State secured a series with a 14-2 win, in seven innings, over Belmont on Sunday.

 

Illinois State (8-13 overall, 2-1 MVC) totaled 14 hits, including four home runs.

 

Bakes blasted a solo shot off the left field videoboard in the top of the 2nd to even the score at 1-1. 

 

The Redbirds exploded for 11 runs in the 4th with a home run from Daniel Pacella, an RBI double from Graham Mastros, four consecutive RBI singles from Josh Outlaw, Luke Stulga, Kyle Gibson, and Shai Robinson, a Belmont wild pitch, and a three-run homer by Bakes.

 

Belmont got a run back in the 4th with an RBI groundout.

 

Outlaw scored again in the 5th to make it a 10-run game again at 12-2. Bakes' third homer of the game was a two-run shot in the sixth to make it 14-2.

 

Belmont (9-16 overall, 1-2 MVC) recorded four hits.

 

Judah Morris extended his on-base streak to 18 games,the  longest by a Redbird this season


Bakes three homers were the first for the Redbirds since Ryan Cermak at Western Illinois in April 2022.

 

Bakes finished with six RBIs. 

 

Illinois State returns to Duffy Bass Field for a Tuesday midweek against Iowa.
