HS Softball: Monticello Downs Argenta-Oreana

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Monticello used a two-out, four-run rally in the second inning to propel them past Argenta-Oreana in non-conference high school softball from Monticello Monday afternoon.

 

With the score tied at two and two outs in the second, ninth-place hitter Lucy Leatherwood drew a walk. Sadie Walsh followed with a walk and Thea Key hit a two-run single to put the Lady Sages ahead 4-2. 

 

Cassidee Stoffel followed with an RBI single and Isa Beery brought in Stoffel with a double to put Monticello ahead 6-2. 

 

The Lady Sages added an insurance run in the sixth when Key hit a sac-fly to left field. 

 

Madison Highland worked four innings of two-run ball getting the start in circle for Monticello. Stoffel closed the door on the win with three innings of scoreless relief.

 

Walsh finished 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Key was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Stoffel was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Beery finished 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. 

 

The Lady Bombers were led by Sophia Wickland who finished 3-for-4 with three singles. Grace Manning was 1-for-2 with a double, an RBI, and drew two walks. 

 

Elyssa Armstrong drove in a run and was 1-for-3.

 

Argenta-Oreana falls to 1-2 overall.

 

Monticello is 3-0.
