Illinois State topped Iowa on Tuesday at Duffy Bass Field by a final score of 10-8.
The Redbirds built a big early lead. Brayden Bakes got the scoring started with an RBI single to right field in the 1st for an early 1-0 lead.
Luke Stulga launched a no-doubt home run to left field in the 2nd for the 2-0 advantage.
Bakes tallied his second RBI game with a single up the middle in the 3rd to make the score 3-0.
The Redbirds scored seven runs in the 4th, highlighted by a bases clearing triple by Daniel Contreras, to lead 10-0 after four innings.
Iowa got on the board in the top of the 6th with an RBI single. The Hawkeyes added three runs in the top of the 8th with a two-run HR and wild pitch to make it a 10-4 ballgame.
In the 9th, Iowa added four runs to make the scoreline its final margin of 10-8.
Illinois State (9-13) sophomore Luke Stulga provided an offensive spark, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a home run. Bakes finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Contreras was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs.
Carter Monke got the win for ISU. He went six innings of one-run ball on seven hits with four strikeouts and issued a walk.
Iowa drops to 14-9 overall.
