Jack Manning fired five strong innings and helped Clinton hold onto an early lead in a 3-2 win over Olympia in high school baseball action in Clinton on Thursday.
Manning allowed two runs, one was earned, over five innings. The junior struck out five, walked on,e and permitted eight hits.
Carson Birky got the Spartans on the board with an RBI single.
Colton Walker's RBI single in the home half of the frame tied the game at 1-1. He would score on a wild pitch later in the frame to put the Maroons ahead 2-1.
Cole Fentress scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the fourth inning to put Clinton up 3-1 and give the Maroons all the insurance they would need.
Preston Curtis closed the door on the victory with two shutout frames. He struck out three and did not permit a hit or a walk.
Josh Bass finished 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Jaeden Bell and Carter Bostic recorded hits for the Maroons.
Clinton improves to 2-3 overall. They will host Ridgeview on Saturday morning.
