Normal Community outlasted Jefferson City (MO) 9-7 in high school baseball action from Daphne, AL on Thursday morning.
Kyle Baety and Max Heineman hit back-to-back run-scoring singles in the second inning to put the Ironmen up 4-0.
Jefferson City answered with a four-run frame to tie the score at 4-4. They added three runs in the fourth to lead 7-4.
The Ironmen saved their best for last. Back-to-back sac flies in the fourth tied the score at 7-7. Two batters later, Gavin Swartz tripled in the go-ahead run for an 8-7 Normal Community lead.
Heineman doubled in Baety in the fifth to give the Ironmen all the insurance they'd need and held on from there.
Heineman was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs to lead Normal Community. Baety was 1-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and runs scored.
Swartz finished 2-for-3 with a double, triple, RBI, a run score,d and walked twice. Drew Stevens drove in a run for the Ironmen.
Normal Community is 3-3 overall. They host Peoria Notre Dame on Monday.
