Monticello mustered just three hits in a 4-0 loss to Tri-Valley in non-conference high school baseball action in Monticello on Tuesday.

The Vikings jumped on ace Ike Young with three runs in the top of the first. The Illinois-commit settled down to strike out eight over 5 1/3 innings. Only two runs were earned.

Sophomore Dawson Gaitros was 2-for-3 with a double at the bottom of the order for Monticello.

The Sages fall to 6-2 overall. They return to action on Thursday when they visit Prairie Central to open Illini Prairie Conference action.
