Collin Jennings crushed a three-run blast to right center to give Illinois its second-straight run-rule walk-off victory as the Illini shutout Maryland (14-18, 3-9) 11-0 in seven innings on Sunday at Illinois Field.
For the second-straight game, the Illini (18-11, 7-5) broke the game open with five runs in the first inning. Greg LaChance and Vytas Valincius recorded RBI-doubles and Schroeder cleared the bases with a two-out, three-run double down the third base line.
The Fighting Illini have now won four-straight contests, their longest winning streak of the season, and improved to 8-1 in front of the home fans.
Regan Hall turned in one of the best starts of his career, improving to 3-2 on the campaign by twirling 6 1/3 scoreless frames, allowing just four hits and one walk to go along with a season-high six strikeouts. Payton Hutchings retired both batters he faced to earn the Orange and Blue's first shutout since April 29, 2023, at Ohio State.
Jennings and Jacob Schroeder each drove in three runs while Cameron Chee-Aloy, Valincius and Jennings all tallied two hits. All nine Illinois starters reached base safely and scored a run in the ballgame.
The Fighting Illini make the short trip to Normal, Ill., on Tuesday for a midweek contest at Illinois State.
