Monticello and Mt. Zion combined for 26 hits but it was the Lady Braves who outlasted the Lady Sages 13-6 in non-conference high school softball action from Mt. Zion on Monday.
Each team scored four runs in the first inning. Isabella Beery scored two with a base hit, and later in the frame, Ali Weidner doubled in two more to put Monticell up 4-0.
Avelyn Ethell hit a two-run homer that brought Mt. Zion within 4-3. Ellie Green singled in the tying run two batters later.
Cassidee Stoffel brought in Sadie Walsh in the top of the second inning to put Monticello back in front 5-4 but that would be the last lead of the day for the Lady Sages.
The Lady Braves scored three more in its half of the second to go up 7-4.
Leading 10-6, the final blow for Monticello was a Chloe Williams bases-clearing triple that put Mt. Zion up 13-6 in the sixth inning.
Sadie Walsh led the Lady Sages, going 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Beery was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Weidner finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Thea Key doubled for Monticello.
The Lady Sages' eight-game win streak to start the year comes to an end as they fall to 8-1. They travel to Tri-Valley on Tuesday.
