HS Softball: Maroa-Forsyth Outlasts Pana

Maroa-Forsyth scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning and rallied to a 9-8 marathon win over Pana in non-conference high school softball action on Monday in Pana. 

 

The Lady Trojans led 5-1 after a two-run fifth inning, but the Lady Panthers got three runs back in its half of the fifth inning to trail 5-4. They would add two more in the sixth inning to go up 6-5. 

 

In the Lady Trojans' half of the seventh, Adelyn Simmons' run-scoring double tied the score at 6-6.

 

After Khali Khaler walked, Taylor Crouch brought home two a single, and Danni Holvey's RBI single finished the scoring for the inning, putting the Lady Trojans in front 9-6. 

 

Of the eight runs surrendered in the game, only two were earned for Hovey, including one of the two in the ninth on a two-run homer that came after a lead-off base runner reached on an error. 

 

Hovey struck out nine, walked one, and permitted eight hits. 

 

Crouch finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Aubrey Stewart hit a solo home run. Simmons was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Maroa-Forsyth. 

 

Lainey Larner and Hovey drove in runs for the Lady Trojans. 

 

With the win, Maroa-Forsyth goes to 5-2 overall. They host Petersburg-PORTA on Tuesday to open Sangamo Conference action.
