HS Baseball: Monticello Topples Taylorville

Heyden Romano's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning ended up being the winning hit as Monticello escaped Taylorville 7-5 in non-conference high school baseball action from Monticello High School on Wednesday.

Cole Basak added a sac-fly on the next at bat to give the Sages a cushion for Brody Biledo, who closed out the win.

Colton Gatton's two-run homer in the top of the third inning put the Tornadoes up 3-2.

Basak homered in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game 3-3. The score remained locked there until the Sages rallied in the sixth.

Baron Odom led a bullpen day for Taylorville with three innings of relief, allowing two unearned runs on two hits with three strikeouts and issued two walks.

Isaac Repscher went three innings for Taylorville. He allowed a run on two hits with four strikeouts.

Monticello's Carter Foran went five innings of three-run ball. The senior permitted five hits, issued three walks, and struck out four.

Maxx Grieme was 2-for-4 for the Tornadoes. Gatton drove in two while Hudson DeMichael added the other RBI.

Monticello is 9-2 overall. They will host Heyworth on Thursday.
