In a game heard on WHOW and all its digital platforms, Jack Manning hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first, but that's where the offense stopped as the Clinton Maroons fell to the Mt. Pulaski Hilltoppers 18-2 in five-inning run-rule non-conference high school baseball action.
The Maroons were led by Jack Manning, who was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. He was the Servpro of Piatt/DeWitt Counties Player of the game. Ryan Pine was 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored, while Jon Smock was 1-for-2 with a single.
Preston Curtis dished two and one-third innings of relief. He allowed six runs on five hits while striking out two and walking two.
The Hilltoppers were led by Eric Cooper, who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Liam Smith went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Eric Cooper pitched four innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He struck out two and issued one walk.
The Hilltoppers had a balanced offense with 9 hitters scoring and only two players without a hit.
With the loss, the Maroons fall to 5-7 while the Hilltoppers improve to 9-2.
The Maroons will play Ridgeview on Thursday on the road.
Mt. Pulaski travels to Manito to take on Midwest Central on Thursday.
