Despite a strong offensive showing from Heyworth, Lexington defeated Heyworth 13-8 in a high-scoring Heart of Illinois Conference high school softball game in Lexington.
Heyworth jumped out to an early lead on Emily Rogers's two-run single in the first inning that gave the Lady Hornets a 3-0 advantage. However, Lexington responded and led 12-5 after three innings.
Despite trailing, Heyworth continued to battle back. In the top of the 4th, Grace Streenz hit a solo home run to start the inning and Lauryn Streenz's single brought home two runs, cutting Lexington's lead to 12-7.
Grace Streenz paced Heyworth, going 4-for-4 with a solo home run and three runs scored. Rogers was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Ellasyn Loudenburg contributed with two hits and two RBIs.
Heyworth drops to 4-9 overall and 0-5 in the Heart of Illinois Conference. They will host Eureka on Friday.
