HS Softball: Monticello Blasts Champaign St. Thomas More

Monticello exploded for a massive 21-0 victory over Champaign St. Thomas More on Friday in Illini Prairie Conference high school baseball action.

The tone for the game was set in a remarkable 12-run first inning, highlighted by Isabella Beery's bases-clearing triple on a line drive to right field, scoring Lucy Leatherwood, Sadie Walsh, and Thea Key. Beery herself then scored on a groundout by Cassidee Stoffel.

Leading the charge were Beery, who went 3-for-3 with six RBIs, while Walsh finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Beery and Ashley Stiverson added doubles, and the Lady Sages got triples from Avery Schweitzer and Kaylin Matthews.

In the pitching circle, Cassidee Stoffel was dominant, pitching four scoreless innings, allowing only one hit, and striking out seven.

Monticello moves to 16-4 overall and 5-0 in the Illini Prairie Conference. They travel to Pontiac on Monday.
