Kyle Beaty hit a grand slam in an eight-run fifth inning, sending Normal Community to a 12-2, six-inning, run-rule win over Normal West in Big 12 Conference high school baseball action on Friday afternoon at Normal Community High School.
The Ironmen avenged a Wednesday defeat at Normal West.

Cooper Temples hit a lead-off home run in the top of the first inning for Normal West. But it was all Ironmen after that.
Andrew Naour singled t start the fifth inning. Following a walk to Brady Burkhart and a walk to Gavin Michaels, the bases were loaded. Drew Stevens then singled, driving in a run. Carter Harris was hit by a pitch, forcing in another run and keeping the bases loaded for Kyle Beaty, who then delivered the biggest blow of the game – a grand slam to left field, scoring four runs and pushing Normal Community's lead to 7-1.
The inning wasn't over yet, as Gavin Swartz followed up with a single to center field, driving in another run and capping off an eight-run outburst that essentially sealed the victory for the Ironmen.
Beaty went 2-for-5 with a grand slam and five RBIs. Gavin Swartz finished 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Drew Stevens contributed a double and an RBI, and Harris went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
On the pitching side for Normal Community, Gavin Swartz earned the win, pitching 5 strong innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and striking out 9. Jonah Roper closed out the game with a scoreless final inning and three strikeouts.
For Normal West, Cooper Temples provided an early spark with his first-inning home run and went 2-for-2 with a run scored. Brady Hart also contributed an RBI.
The Wildcats fall to 13-7 overall and 7-3 in the Big 12. They will travel to Hononegah for a non-conference tilt on Saturday.
Normal Community is 13-4 overall and 9-1 in the Big 12. They host Washington on Saturday.
