In a pair of excellent high school baseball games, Normal West fell to Hononegah in a pair of dramatic walk-offs on Saturday in Rockton.
Hononegah initially took a 6-0 lead early in game one but the Wildcats mounted a spirited comeback but the Indians walked it off in the bottom of the seventh.
Cooper Temples went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, while Sam McCully drove in three runs going 1-for-3.
In the second game, Normal West jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first. They continued to battle, scoring in the third and twice in the fifth to take a 7-5 lead. They added a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh, but Hononegah, trailing 8-7, rallied in the bottom of the seventh to secure a 9-8 walk-off victory, completing the doubleheader sweep.
Nolan Schultz went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, driving in a run and scoring twice. Chase Reinhart finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Despite not recording a hit, Brady Pollett contributed two RBIs. Owen Kaufman also drove in two. Ty Bachman and Sean Jenkins each added a hit for the Wildcats.
With the two Saturday losses, Normal West drops to 13-8. They host winless Peoria High School on Monday in Big 12 Conference action.
