Mt. Pulaski made easy work of Springfield Lanphier in 16-0 run-rule win on Saturday in non-conference high school baseball action in Mt. Pulaski.
Mt. Pulaski's offense came alive in the bottom of the second inning with an eight-run frame. The scoring began with Liam Smith driving in Eric Cooper with a single. A wild pitch allowed Cooper to score.
Smith then scored on a fielder's choice. Carter Clark singled home Chance Payne. Aaron Volle scored on a groundout. A hit-by-pitch brought Clark home. Finally, Eric Cooper singled in Tyler Cross, and an error allowed Austin Kretzinger to score.
In the third, Payne blasted a double, scoring Eric Cooper and Liam Smith.
Payne finished 2-for-2 with a double, a triple, and five RBIs. Cooper drew three walks and drove in three runs.
On the mound, Chase Roberts was masterful for the Hilltoppers, pitching all four innings of the run-rule contest. He allowed just one hit, striking out eight without issuing a walk.
The Hilltoppers are 14-3 overall. They host Jacksonville Route on Tuesday.
