Landyn Corbin was dominant on the mound, and Normal Community scored eight runs in the fifth inning to power past Peoria Richwoods 1-1 in Big 12 Conference high school baseball on Wednesday evening.
Normal Community got on the board early in the bottom of the first. and extended it lead to 2-0 after the second.
The game remained 2-0 until the bottom of the fifth, when the Ironmen offense exploded. The inning began with Brady Burkhart drawing a walk. Carter Harris then singled, advancing Burkhart to second. Luke Beaty walked, loading the bases, and Kyle Beaty followed with another walk, forcing in Burkhart - making the score 3-1.
After Andrew Naour flew out for the first out, Gavin Swartz delivered a clutch single to right field, scoring Harris and Luke Beaty and pushing the lead to 5-1. Max Heineman then singled home Luke Beaty and Swartz, making it 7-1.
Drew Stevens then singled home Heineman, increasing the lead to 8-1. Finally, Michaels singled home Stevens, bringing the score to 9-1.
Holden Baldwin grounded out, scoring Michaels - who stole third - making the score 10-1.
Corbin allowed just three hits over five innings, striking out 14.
Swartz was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
Normal Community goes to 16-4 overall and 11-1 in the Big 12 Conference. They visit Urbana on Friday before hosting Moline for a twin bill on Saturday.
