HS Softball: Monticello Gets By Bloomington Central Catholic

Monticello toppled Bloomington Central Catholic 7-2 in Illini Prairie Conference high school softball action on Thursday in Monticello. 

 

Cassidee Stoffel was again outstanding in circle - twirling a complete game and allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out six.

 

Monticello's offense broke a scoreless tie with a three-run rally in the third inning. Beery then drove in Thea Key with a single. Then, with Madison Highland and Beery on base, Ali Weidner hit a double to left field, scoring both runners to extend the Lady Sages lead to 4-0.

 

The Sages added three more runs in the fourth inning. Cassidee Stoffel hit a double to score Lucy Leatherwood. Then, Bloomington Central Catholic struggled with passed balls during consecutive walks to Ali Weidner and Madison Highland, allowing Emma Lawhead - running for Stoffel - and Thea Key to score, making it 7-2.

 

Offensively, Stoffel led the way with a double and an RBI, while Weidner's double drove in two runs. Beery had two hits and an RBI.

 

Monticello improves to 18-5 overall and 6-1 in the Illini Prairie Conference. They have a showdown with St. Joseph-Ogden on Monday. Hear Monday's action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
