HS Baseball: Monticello Downs Bloomington Central Catholic

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Colton Vance hit a two-run home run, and Monticello pulled away late to get by Bloomington Central Catholic 9-3 on Thursday in Illini Prairie Conference high school baseball action from Monticello.

 

The Sages jumped ahead early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The lead was extended in the bottom of the fifth when Colton Vance hit a home run, scoring Eric Arnold.

 

Vance earned the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt Counties Player of the Game. 

 

Dawson Gaitros was 1-for-2 and scored two runs, Eli Craft finished 1-for-2 and drove in a run. Grant Kiger came off the bench and laced a triple to right center field and finished 1-for-2 with a run. Eric Arnold also scored two runs, going 1-for-2. 

 

Gatsby Grant pitched five solid innings for the Sages, earning the win. Brody Billedo closed out the final two innings on the mound. 

 

The southpaw induced a game-ending double play on a comebacker off the bat of Crayton Schnierle. Biledo fired to Gaitros, who threw a strike to first baseman Vance.

 

Monticello picks up its 20th win of the season and goes to 20-3 overall - winning its tenth straight. They also improved to 6-1 in the Illini Prairie Conference. 

 

The Sages host St. Joseph-Ogdon Monday, who are also 6-1 in the Illini Prairie Conference.
