Eli Craft hit a home run leading Monticello over Tuscola 9-3 in non-conference high school baseball action on Wednesday in Tuscola.
Craft's fifth-inning leadoff home run extended the Sages' lead to 5-0.
Monticello scored four runs in the second when a sacrifice fly by Grant Kiger scored Jake Motsegood. Cole Basak then singled, bringing in Colton Vance. Dawson Gaitros followed with a hard ground ball that resulted in an error by the Tuscola third baseman, allowing Basak and Motsegood to score, making it 4-0.
Later in the fifth after the Craft home run, Basak singled in Vance to make it 6-0.
In the top of the seventh, Young singled, scoring Vance, then later scored on a wild pitch to bring the final score to 9-3.
Young led the Sages, going 2-for-4 with two singles and an RBI, while Basak was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Vance scored three runs.
On the mound for the Sages, Gatsby Grant earned the win, pitching five innings and allowing three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Brody Billedo pitched two scoreless innings in relief, allowing no hits and striking out one.
Monticello improves to 21-4 overall. They travel to Rantoul this afternoon.
