Normal West held off Heyworth 9-7 in non-conference high school softball action Thursday from Normal.

In the top of the seventh inning, Heyworth traield 9-5. Haley Rogers walked with the bases loaded scoring Sidney Ditchen, making it 9-6. Then, Emily Rogers grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Ellasyn Loudenburg to score, bringing the Lady Hornets within one run at 9-7. However, the rally ultimately fell short when Lauryn Streenz hit a ground ball and reached on an error, allowing Lauren Toohoill to score, but the inning ended when Rogers was thrown out at third. 

For the Lady Hornets, Natalie Kopp was 2-for-3 with a double and scored two runs. Streenz was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Sidney Ditchen was 1-for-3 and scored two runs.

Gabby Dow took the loss for Heyworth, pitching six innings. Paige Warwick earned the win in relief for Normal West

The Lady Hornets drop to 9-14 overall. They host Elmwood-Brimfield on Friday.
