Monticello scored ten runs in the first inning and rolled Rantoul 14- 1 in Illini Prairie Conference high school softball action on Thursday in Rantoul.
Sadie Walsh started the game reaching on an error, immediately followed by Thea Key's two-run home run.
Ashley Stiverson and Avery Schweitzer drove in runs while Walsh added a single that brought in two more. Key added another single, plating two additional and a fielder's choice and a single capped off the frame, giving Monticello a commanding 10-0 lead.
Key finished 2-for-3 with the homerun and four RBIs. Walsh was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Schweitzer was also 2-for-3 two RBIs while Isabella Beery went 2-for-2 with an RBI single. Madison Highland chipped in with a 1-for-1 performance, scoring a run.
Ali Weidner went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Ashley Stiverson earned an RBI via a walk while Cassidee Stoffel contributed an RBI with a groundout.
Stoffel earned the victory in circle twirling five innings and allowing just one run on four hits, striking out four.
The Lady Sages improve to 22-5 overall and 8-1 in the Illini Prairie Conference. The win secures Monticello a co-share of the Conference championship - its first since 2014. They travel to Olympia on Monday.
