In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Heyden Romano fired a complete game, one-hit shutout, leading Monticello to a 5-0 win over Olympia in non-conference high school baseball action from Monticello on Friday.
Romano's only blemish was a second-inning single to Owen Alford. The junior sat down 21 of the 22 batters he faced with 12 strikeouts. His stellar outing earned him the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt Counties Player of the Game.
Eli Craft singled in a run in the first to make it 1-0, Monticello.
Brody Biledo scored on a passed ball in the second inning.
Eric Arnold had a run-scoring single in the third.
The Sages tacked on two more in the sixth in an RBI groundout by Zeke Young and another passed ball scored Biledo again for the 5-0 lead.
Arnold paced the Sages' offense, going 2-for-3. Dawson Gaitros, Carter Foran, Colton Vance, and Biledo had hits for Monticello.
The Sages go to 24-4 overall. They travel to Effingham on Monday to take on St. Anthony.
