HS Baseball: Clinton Falls to Lincoln

In a game heard on WHOW and all its digital platforms, the Clinton Maroons went back and forth with the Lincoln Railsplitters but ultimately lost, falling 13-8 after seven innings of non-conference high school baseball action Friday night in Clinton. 


The Maroons started hot with Colton Walker and Jack Manning scoring in the bottom of the first to make it 2-0, but Lincoln answered with two runs in the top of the second to tie the game. 


Tied at four heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Maroons scored three to take the lead 7-4, but the Railers' offense opened up with six runs to the Maroons' one in the sixth to make the score 10-8. 


In the top of the seventh, Lincoln added three more insurance runs to seal the victory. The Maroons were led by Jack Manning, who went 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Josh Bass had a solo homerun, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Colton Walker, Cole Fentress, Ryan Pine, Jaeden Bell, and Brady Stauffer all recorded hits for the Maroons. 


Jaxon Reynolds was the Servpro of Piatt/DeWitt Counties player of the game. He went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an impressive 4 RBIs. 


The Railsplitters were led by Ashton Corely, who homered twice, one of which was a grand slam, and put up 6 RBIs going 2-for-4. Parker Graue was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. 
With the loss, the Maroons fall to 12-13 while Lincoln improves to 11-14. 


The Maroons will play host to El Paso-Gridley on Monday while Lincoln travels to Rantoul.
