Clinton scored early and often in taking care of Shelbyville 13-7 in Central Illinois Conference high school softball action on Saturday from Shelbyville.
The Lady Maroons' scoring began with two outs in the second inning. Ariana Humes laid down a sacrifice bunt, allowing Adrianna Casarez to score. Adrianna Casarez hit a ground ball and reached on an error, allowing Chelsea Brown to score. Lainey Nichols then singled, bringing Brown across the plate before Aliviyah Haynes singled, scoring Olivia Webb, capping off the four-run, two-out rally for a 4-0 Clinton lead.
Clinton added two more runs in the third when with the bases loaded, Riley Fentress drew a walk, scoring Webb before Nichols hit a double, scoring Webb and Brown to make it 7-2 Lady Maroons.
In the fourth inning, Clinton added three more runs, highlighted by Haynes' run-scoring double, bringing in Fentress for a 10-2 lead.
In the sixth inning, run scoring singles from Hadley Humble singled Casarez extended its lead and in the seventh inning, Clinton added two runs when Humble doubled, scoring Avery Smith followed by another Haynes' run-scoring single.
Humble paced the Lady Maroons, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Nichols was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs while Haynes finished 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Casarez was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Smith was 2-for-5 and Fentress went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
On circle, Haynes pitched a complete game for Clinton, earning the win. She went seven innings, allowing 10 hits and two earned runs while striking out six and walking just one.
The Lady Maroons improve to 6-15 overall and 2-6 in the Central Illinois Conference.
