A three-run fourth inning propelled Normal Community over rival Bloomington 4-2 in Big 12 Conference high school baseball action on Monday at Normal Community High School.
The rally began with Brady Burkhart hitting a double on a line drive to right field. Then, Luke Beaty hit a hard ground ball and reached on an error by the shortstop, scoring Andrew Naour and tying the game at 2-2.
The go-ahead and eventual winning runs scored when Kyle Beaty singled on a pop fly to right field. An error by the right fielder on the play allowed both Luke Beaty and Burkhart to score, giving the Ironmen a 4-2 lead.
Gavin Swartz pitched a strong six innings for the Normal Community, allowing two earned runs on six hits and striking out eight. Luke Beaty pitched a scoreless final inning to secure the victory.
Kyle Beaty was 1-for-3 with an RBI while Burkhart was 1-for-3 with a double to lead the Ironmen.
With the loss, Bloomington drops to 18-11 overall and 11-6 in the Big 12 Conference.
Normal Community is 27-4 overall and 16-1 in the Big 12 Conference. The two will play again on Wednesday at Bloomington High School.
