In a game heard on WHOW and all its digital platforms, the Clinton Maroons struck first, but the Maroa-Forsyth Trojans answered and ran away with an 11-3 win in non-conference high school baseball action Tuesday night from Forsyth.
In the top of the first, leadoff hitter Colton Walker reached on an error and was eventually scored by a base hit from catcher Josh Bass to take the lead 1-0.
The Maroons would hold the lead until the bottom of the third inning when the Trojans put five runs up, highlighted by a double from Ace Giles that drove in two. In the bottom of the fourth, Maroa-Forsyth added four more runs to Clinton’s one in the top of the inning, to make the score 9-2.
The Maroons would go on to add one more in the top of the sixth, but the Trojans answered with two to take the 11-3 win.
The Maroons were led by Ryan Pine, who was the Sevpro of Piatt/DeWitt Counties Player of the Game. He went 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI. Colton Walker went 2-for-4 with a run scored, and he also pitched an inning and a third of relief, striking out two. Josh Bass added two runs and an RBI with his 1-for-2 outing. Mitchell Cornwell and Jaxon Reynolds also contributed hits.
The Trojans were led by Mitch Williams, who went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Ace Giles was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Gunnar Larner and Grady Rose both went 1-for-3 with two runs apiece.
On the mound for Maroa-Forsyth was Cayden Rose, who pitched 6 and ? innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He struck out 10 and issued only three walks.
With the loss, Clinton falls to 13-14 while Maroa Forsyth improves to 21-7.
