In a game heard on WHOW and all its digital platforms, the Clinton Maroons ended the regular season strong by shutting out the Decatur St. Teresa Bulldogs by a final score of 10-0 in five innings of run-rule non-conference high school baseball action Friday night in Clinton.
The Maroons struck first when Jaxon Reynolds singled to bring in Brayden Parker, who was running for Josh Bass.
Both teams would go scoreless in the second, but Clinton came alive again when Jack Manning doubled to bring in two in the third.
The Maroons put the game out of reach for St. T with a seven-run rally in the bottom of the fifth that started with a Ryan Pine two-run homerun, followed by consecutive doubles from Brady Stauffer, Colton Walker, Manning, and Reynolds.
The Maroons were led by Walker, who was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Manning went 2-for-4 with three RBIs while Josh Bass was 1-for-2 with a run scored. Stauffer was the Servpro of Piatt/DeWitt Counties Player of the Game, going a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Reynolds also went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Pine was 1-for-3.
Mitchell Cornwell twirled five innings of scoreless ball for the Maroons, allowing only five hits. He struck out seven and issued five walks.
The Bulldogs were led by Stephen Kralik, who was 1-for-1. Jax Harrison added a hit, going 1-for-3, while Logan Lynch went 1-for-3.
With the win, the Maroons finish the regular season at 14-15 while Decatur St. Teresa falls to 15-15.
Clinton will start regional play on Monday when they travel to Downs to take on Tri-Valley.
