In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Thea Key blasted a three-run home run in the seventh inning and led Monticello over Arthur Christian 10-0 in a six-inning, run-rule win on Friday evening in non-conference high school softball action from Monticello.
The game was delayed an hour and a half due to heavy thunderstorms that impacted central Illinois on Friday.
Key started the game with a triple that scored Sadie Walsh. Cassidee Stoffel doubled in Key, and Ali Weidner added a sac-fly later to put Monticello up early, 3-0.
Stoffel added a two-run double in the second to put the Lady Sages up 5-0.
Key's three-run blast in the sixth broke the game open 8-0. She finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs to lead Monticello. She was the Serv Pro of Piatt-DeWitt County Player of the Game.
Stofell was 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Lucy Leatherwood, Madison Highland, and Sadie Walsh each had two hits for the Lady Sages.
Monticello finishes the regular season 24-6 overall. They will take on Tri-Valley next Tuesday afternoon in Regional semifinal action from Monticello. Game time is 6 pm. Hear the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
