Mt. Zion started fast and didn't look back, topping Normal West 6-2 in non-conference high school baseball action on Monday in Mt. Zion.
Evan Howley doubled in a run in a four-run first inning. Connor Fox singled in a run and Carter Spangler scored two with a single.
Andrew Tay pitched in the sixth inning despite six walks for the Braves. He gave up two runs on two hits with six strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
Torin DeLaere was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Wildcats. Cooper Temples and Drew Hart had the only other hits for Normal West.
The Wildcats drop to 19-13 overall. They finish out the regular season later this week while awaiting its Class 3A playoff pairings on Wednesday.
