In a game heard on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Ike Young struck out nine in a complete game, two-hit shutout of Maroa-Forsyth, leading Monticello to a 5-0 win in Regional Championship action Saturday in Forsyth.
The Illinois-commit faced just three over the minimum and was able to work around a lead-off double by Ace Giles in the top of the fourth inning. The All-State football star earned the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt Counties Player of the Game.
Giles finished 2-for-3 with a double to lead Maroa-Forsyth.
Colton Vance was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Sages while Dawson Gaitros was 1-for-1 with an RBI and two walks. Eric Arnold was 1-for-4 with a double while Eli Craft added the other hit for the Sages.
Monticello took advantage of four errors by the Trojans.
Cayden Rose allowed five runs, but only one was earned in taking the loss.
Maroa-Forsyth ends its campaign 22-9 overall.
Monticello improves to 28-6 and wins its fourth Regional Championship in the last five years. They will battle Bismarck-Henning on Wednesday in Sectional Semifinal action at 4 pm from Decatur Millikin. Hear the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
