HS FBall: Monticello Tops Rantoul

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Monticello built a 22-0 lead early and rolled to a 36-14 win over Rantoul in Illini Prairie Conference high school football action on Friday in Rantoul.

 

Nolan Buehnerkemper accounted for three touchdowns for Monticello. The senior hit Maddux Utley for a 45-yard touchdown on the second play from scrimmage for the Sages, then ran in another score about a minute later, establishing a 15-0 lead early in the first quarter.

 

The Sages sputtered to the finish, but Buehnerkemper would find Zeke Young from 18 yards out in the third quarter to make the score 29-0.

 

Beuhnerkemper finished 12-of-25 for 215 yards passing with two touchdowns and ran for another. He was the State Bank of Bement player of the game.

 

Jake Robinson had 68 receiving yards on three receptions in his return to action from a high ankle sprain. Utley finished with 46 yards receiving while Heyden Romano had 44 yards receiving on three receptions. Young added 23 yards receiving, and Will Osborne had 37 yards on three receptions. 

 

Junior quarterback Jordyn Rice finished with two touchdowns for the Eagles with a 19-yard run and a 47-yard pass. 

 

The Eagles fall to 0-3 overall.

 

Monticello is 2-1. They will host Decatur St. Teresa next Friday night. Game time is 7 pm. Hear the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
