In a game heard on WHOW and all its digital platforms, early mistakes on special teams plagued the Clinton Maroons, sending them to a 49-0 loss to the Eureka Hornets on the road.
The Hornets started the game with the ball and marched down field to make the score 7-0 early on.
A fumble on the Maroons' first kickoff reception gave Eureka good field position and allowed them to score again.
With the score at 14-0, a muffed kick at the one-yard line was scooped up by the Hornets to make the score 21-0 before the Maroons' offense got their first opportunity to take the field.
The Maroons struggled offensively, but were highlighted by Josh Bass, who passed for a total of 96 yards. Keaton Graves posted 69 receiving yards, 53 of which came in just two receptions. Cash Tanner added 10 rushing yards.
Eureka told a much different story when it came to their offense, which was led by Quarterback Lincoln Knapp and his three rushing touchdowns. He passed for only 37 yards but rushed for 82. Fisher Gladson added two touchdowns and 47 rushing yards.
With the loss, the Maroons find themselves still in search of their first win, now sitting at 0-5. Eureka improves to 2-3.
Clinton is back at home this week to celebrate Homecoming and take on the Tri-Valley Vikings.
