In a game heard on WEZC, Bloomington Central Catholic used a big second half to pull away from Monticello in a 41-13 win Friday night in Illini Prairie Conference high school football action from Monticello.
Valshun Powe totalled 187 yards with two touchdowns on 15 carries, scoring on two runs of 50-plus yards in the second half, Matthew Brady ran for 165 yards with a touchdown and passed for 122 and another score to help lead BCC to a 5-0 start.
Brady found Eion Conn for an 88-yard touchdown in the first quarter to open the scoring.
Leading 20-7 at the half, Powe scored from 52 yards and 54 yards out in the third quarter to help BCC break the game open in the third.
Brady added a 25-yard touchdown run in the first half.
Maddux Utley and Nolan Buehnerkemper scored in short-yardage situations for Monticello. Buehnerkemper finished with 128 yards passing and 67 yards rushing. Utley had 37 yards receiving and 23 yards rushing for the Sages.
