HS GBBall: Young Heyworth Group Looking to Come Together And Grow

While they may be young, this year's Heyworth girls' basketball team is looking to grow together as a unit and hopefully surprise some people.

Coach Tom Eller indicates that while they lost a lot of their production from last year's team, he is looking forward to molding this team into a group that will get up and down the floor and play hard, full-court defense.

Lacy Gerike is a senior on the team this year and hopes to help see her teammates improve - especially the younger players - and build the program into a winner for the next several years.

Charissa Cook is a sophomore at Heyworth and transfers in from Bloomington Central Catholic. She enjoys her teammates and looks forward to being a part of what they are building.

Aliyah Riddle will get a taste of varsity action as a freshman this year. She is excited for the opportunity to play, but also to learn from very good athletes. She has a goal of scoring 1,000 career points in her time at Heyworth.

Coach Eller was pleased to hear his players talk about culture because that is something he has been stressing with them since the summer practice season.

The Lady Hornets take on Urbana University High on Monday to open the regular season.
