The Monticello Lady Sages outscored the Shelbyville Lady Rams 16-5 in the second, and 18-10 in the third to take the 57-34 win in non-conference high school girls basketball action in Shelbyville on Thursday night.
Both teams kept it close through the first eight minutes, coming out of the quarter at 15-13. The Sages would go on to outscore their opponent by 21 points over the next three quarters to build a lead and keep it.
The Lady Sages were led by Sarah Cresap, who led all scorers with 28 points and shot 6-for-13 from beyond the arc. Ali Weidner added eight points while Emma Arnold and Mady Melton both had six. The team went 23-for-65 from the field.
The Lady Rams were led by Kenzie Jones, who was the second-highest scorer of the night with 21 points. Tailyn Hancock put up 9 but went 0-for-4 from the free-throw line.
With the win, Monticello moves to 1-2 while Shelbyville falls to 1-1.
The Lady Sages will take on Charleston on Monday in Monticello; tip-off is at 7 PM.
