HS GBBall: Monticello Pummels Urbana

The Monticello Lady Sages shut out their opponents in the first quarter and stole the ball 13 times to lead to their 62-17 rout of the Urbana Lady Tigers on Monday night in non-conference high school girls basketball action in Urbana. 


Monticello did not allow Urbana to score through the first eight minutes, leading to a 14-0 score going into the second quarter. They built up their lead in the second and third quarters, outscoring the Lady Tigers 39-13. The score was 53-13 going into the final quarter. 


The Lady Sages spread out the scoring, but were led by Sarah Cresap with 12 points. Ali Wediner scored 10 points and had six assists. Mady Melton also added 10 and had four steals. Lexi Leatherwood contributed five more steals to add to the team's total of 13. 


The Lady Tigers were led by Lai'yonna Harper, who posted 12 points and shot perfect from the field. Madison Shade added four. 


With the win, Monticello improves to 3-2 while Urbana falls to 0-3. 


The Lady Sages will come back to Monticello to host the Mt. Pulaski Lady Hill Toppers on Thursday. Tip-off is at 7 PM.
