In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Matthias Rudolph recorded his second consecutive double-double to lead Monticello over Riverton 53-42 in non-conference high school boys' basketball action Tuesday in Riverton.
Rudolph scored the first five points for the Sages, who jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead. Riverton would rally back and go up 11-8 with 5:44 left in the first quarter, but Monticello closed the frame on a 17-7 run highlighted by another Rudolph three-pointer, a layup, and two free throws.
The junior scored 12 of his game-high 20 points in the first quarter and finished with 12 rebounds. He was the State Bank of Bement player of the game.
Ayden McCool added 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Sages.
Riverton was led by Julian Rice's16 points.
Monticello outrebounded Riverton 35-23, and despite shooting 42.5 percent from the floor, they held the Hawks to 38.3 percent shooting.
The Sages went 12-of-16 at the foul line to Riverton's 4-of-5.
The Hawks also finished 2-of-13 from three.
Riverton is 2-1 on the season.
