The Maroa-Forsyth Trojans fought off a 24-point performance from Talan Rhodes, and Coby Lane hit the game-winner to beat the Central A&M Raiders by a final score of 57-56 in high school boys basketball Macon County Tournament play on Thursday night in Cerro Gordo.
The Trojans held the momentum through the first half, but both teams battled to run the score up to 32-29 by halftime. In the third quarter, the Raiders took the lead to make it 47-46 going into the final eight minutes.
With Maroa-Forsyth trailing 55-56 in the final seconds, Coby Lane found the rim to hit the 57-56 game-winning shot.
The Trojans were led by Coby Lane, who scored 20 points, 15 of which came in the second half. Caebrin Lee added 12 points, all in the first half, while Luke Smith contributed 11 points, including nine from beyond the arc.
Central A&M was led by 5-foot-9 junior Talan Rhodes, who scored 24 points. Ace Spinner added 14 points for the Raiders.
With the win, Maroa-Forsyth improves to 3-1 while Central A&M falls to 3-2.
The Trojans will play host to the Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals in Cerro Gordo tonight as they continue Macon County Tournament play. Tip-off is at 8:00 PM.
