HS BBBall: Monticello Rolls Heyworth

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Matthias Rudolph scored 25 points, and Monticello rolled Heyworth 65-42 in non-conference high school boys basketball action Friday night in Heyworth.

The Sages jumped out to a 9-0 lead in just a minute - highlighted by five points from Ayden McCool and four from Rudolph - and never looked back.

Rudolph scored 10 of his 25 in the first quarter but went out with two early fouls and did not play the rest of the first half. He added 11 more in the third quarter. 

After Heyworth's Chase Ruppert made it a 37-25 score with 4:30 left in the third quarter, the Sages went on a 9-2 run to open up a 46-27 lead with 1:45 left and led 51-32 at the end of the frame.

Ruppert led the Hornets with 25 points. 

Gus Reppert had 14 points for Monticello, who shot 57-percent from the floor. McCool finished with 11 points.

A total of 41 fouls were called Friday night. Heyworth went 13-of-17 at the foul line while Monticello finished 9-of-12. 

The Hornets made just one three-pointer on 11 attempts. The Sages controlled the glass, 30-23.

Heyworth falls to 5-3 overall.

Monticello goes to 3-1. Tomorrow's (Saturday) action against Petersburg-PORTA-AC Central has been postponed. The Sages will host Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond on Tuesday night. Game time is 7 pm. Hear the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
