Jaeden Bell had a double-double, and the Clinton Maroons defeated the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Falcons by a final score of 65-61 to win 5th place in the Holiday Hoopla Tournament on Monday afternoon in Monticello.
The Maroons jumped ahead early, leading 17-11 after the first quarter, and 31-23 at the half. The two teams battled in the third to make the score 49-41, forcing Clinton to fight off a fourth-quarter push from GCMS that would come just four points shy.
Bell led all scorers with 27 points and 17 rebounds for the Maroons. Keaton Graves had 17 points while Keagan Daughtrey added nine points. The team shot 61.9% from the charity stripe.
The Falcons were led by Graydon Leonard, who had 23 points, while Christian Brown had 19 points.
With the win, Clinton improves to 10-4 and takes 5th place in the Holiday Hoopla Tournament. GCMS goes to 6-6 and finishes 6th in the tournament.
Clinton will kick off the new year at home when they take on the 11-0 LeRoy Panthers on Friday night. Tip-off is at 7:30 PM. Hear all the action on WHOW and all its digital platforms.
